  6. WORLDLINESS DANCING

  7. WORLDLINESS DANCING

  8. DANCING "to move the feet and body rhythmically, usually in time to music"

  9. WHY IT IS WRONG • It is, at the very least, questionable.

  10. DANCING QUOTES "If you ask, 'Is _______ wrong?' you know it is." (Jerry Clowers)

  11. Romans 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin. To paraphrase: But he who doubts is condemned if he dances, because he does not dance from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

  12. WHY IT IS WRONG • It is, at the very least, questionable. • It breaks down barriers of modesty.

  13. DANCING QUOTES "I will say that I do not believe a woman can waltz virtuously and waltz well, for she must yield her person completely to her partner."

  14. DANCING QUOTES "Dancing is an exciting and pleasurable recreation as it affords a partial satisfaction to the sex impulse."

  15. WHY IT IS WRONG • It is, at the very least, questionable. • It breaks down barriers of modesty. • It destroys spirituality.

  16. Matthew 5:28 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

  17. Mark 7:22-23 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man."

  19. WHY IT IS WRONG • It is, at the very least, questionable. • It breaks down barriers of modesty. • It destroys spirituality. • It is lascivious in nature.

  20. DANCING QUOTES A doctor says, "I attack the modern dance as a reversion toward savagery. As a medical man, I flatly charge that modern social dancing is fundamentally sinful and evil. I charge that dancing’s charm is based upon sex appeal. I charge that it is the most insidious of the maneuvers preliminary to sex betrayal."

  21. DANCING QUOTES A Jewish Rabbi writes, "Modern dancing is popular, not because of its grace, but because of its appeal to our lower nature."

  22. DANCING QUOTES A Methodist Bishop writes, "I deem the modern dance an unmitigated evil, because in most of its forms it is vulgar and wars directly against the claims of the spiritual life."

  23. DANCING QUOTES A Presbyterian preacher says, "Dancing … leads to forgetfulness of God."

  24. DANCING QUOTES An humanistic sociologist writes, "This process of mate selection may be aided by specifically erotic displays, such as [the] body movements of dancing, where sensuous actions accentuate the gender signals and the individual qualities of the potential mate."

  25. DANCING QUOTES He goes on to say, "Sexual intention movements and mimicked copulatory actions also appear on the dance floor, helping to suggest the patterns of behavior yet to come." [Desmond Morris, Manwatching: A Field Guide to Human Behavior, p. 246].

  26. Matthew 14:6-8 But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, "Give me John the Baptist's head here on a platter."

  27. Matthew 14:9-10 And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her. So he sent and had John beheaded in prison.

  28. WHY IT IS WRONG • It is, at the very least, questionable. • It breaks down barriers of modesty. • It destroys spirituality. • It is lascivious in nature. • It keeps bad company.

  29. DANCING QUOTES "We believe that investigation will show that drinking, gambling, and prostitution are sisters of the dance." "Originating in the houses of ill fame in New Orleans a few decades ago, modern ballroom dancing has swept through the country like wildfire – for one reason only."

  30. DANCING QUOTES "You can take the dance out of the bawdy house, but you can not take the base nature out of the dance. It is still lasciviousness set to music whether you find it in the roadhouse or in the parlor." The New World Dictionary defines lasciviousness as "lustful; wanton; exciting lust."

  31. Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  33. WHY IT IS WRONG • It is, at the very least, questionable. • It breaks down barriers of modesty. • It destroys spirituality. • It is lascivious in nature. • It keeps bad company. • It can lead to other sins.

  34. Ephesians 4:17-19 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

  36. Ephesians 4:20-24 But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

  37. 1 Peter 4:3-4 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles--when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.

  38. 1 Peter 4:3-4 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles--when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.

  39. 1 Peter 4:5-6 They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

  40. 2 Peter 2:17-18 These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.

  41. 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

  42. 2 Timothy 4:9-10 Be diligent to come to me quickly; for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica--Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.
