Costume Design Insights for Post-Apocalyptic Characters

This trailer explores the costume design for a post-apocalyptic film, emphasizing the need for practicality and warmth in clothing choices. Characters are outfitted in thick woolly hats, big coats, layers of jumpers, and rugged jeans to withstand cold, rainy weather while living outdoors. The intention behind these outfits is to connect the audience with the struggles of homelessness, fostering sympathy for the characters. Makeup techniques, such as using charcoal to dirty hands and applying fatigued skin tones, contribute to the film’s gritty atmosphere, enhancing viewer immersion.

  1. Costumes For the Sectonious trailer

  2. Clothing Thick woolly hat All of these clothes are conventional for a post apocalyptic film because the characters are normally travelling in cold and rainy weather conditions and living outside, so they need warm clothes to survive. I think the reason for these clothes are to make the audience connect the characters with homeless people and make them feel sympathetic towards the characters. Big thick coat Layers of coats and jumpers Dirty casual jeans Big thick boots

  3. Make-up Because we were doing extreme where his hands are in shot, we needed to make sure his hands seemed dirty, so we got some charcoal coloured eye make up and rubbed it on his hands and his fingernails. We also applied slight make up around his eyes to make him seem more tired and dirty. It may not look like extensive make up, but it just adds to the post apocalyptic atmosphere that we are trying to make the viewers believe.
