In this first battle, against Grendel, the poet decides to relate much of the struggle from Grendel’s point of view rather than Beowulf’s…. • It will be your job to create a comic strip of this battle from Grendel’s point of view. You want to look at the scene & tell the story as if you were Grendel
Learning Target • Students will understand how adding different points of view in literature can add to the understanding of a story.
Learning Criteria For Success 1.) Read the section of the poem title “The Fight With Grendel” 2.) Find a partner or choose to work alone and get an assignment sheet. 3.) Think about the most important scenes from this section to go in your comic strip (you must have a minimum of 5) 4.) Begin drawing your scenes in the comic strip boxes – be sure to add captions for each scene that are quoted directly from the book. 5.) When you are done with the comic strip answer the questions from the assignment sheet on another piece of paper.
Requirements: • You have to include a minimum of 5 scenes with dialogue and captions for each. • The captions under each scene must be quoted directly from the book. • The dialogue can be your own interpretation – try to include words from the poem to get to the “advanced” level – • Include at least 2 Kennings! Underline them so I can clearly see • The scenes should be from Grendel’s point of view – we should see what he is seeing. • All main characters need to be clearly identified • Setting needs to be appropriate to time and place of the scene • Spelling, punctuation and grammar count.
Remember… • You do not have to be an artist to do well with this. Be creative and have fun as you tell the story from Grendel’s points of view. • I recommend doing a draft in PENCIL before you start on your final draft. • I will provide you with Comic Strips. You may use whichever you like, but remember you have to have a minimum of five and they have to include dialogue and captions.
