  3. “Yes, she was quite liberal and acknowledged none of the traditional social barriers, including those gender- or race-based.”

  7. I remember Janett as an extremely kind person who always had something great to contribute to our book club discussions. It was a special event when we met at her lovely home on Narrow River. She had filled the house with fascinating art which said so much about her as a person engaged with the larger world.

  14. Janett saved me from the biggest frustration in my first year at URI. . . . I will miss her so much. In 2005, after I have prepared the NSF Career Proposal, the research office found that I was not eligible to submit this proposal because the Advance Fellow status was not considered as tenure-track by NSF. I was extremely frustrated until the problem was brought to Janett. My frustration magically went away, when I saw Janett, our vice provost,  making phone calls to several NSF program managers, explaining the situation for me, and providing the strongest support to my research. At that moment, I felt very lucky to be an Advance Fellow and what NSF thought about my status was not important any more. --- an ADVANCE Fellow

  15. “Janett was quite a force in our lives, wasn't she ..... We do have many great memories of her time at URI. Even though we might not have been quite ready for her, she surely made a difference in many lives ... in a very positive way.  I am going to miss her ... “
