  5. Objectives of the bibliometric analysis • To establish an INDEPTH web-based searchable database of all publications based on DSS work. • To conduct a preliminary analysis of content, trends, and relevance. • To use the database as a basis to identify case studies of DSS contributions. • To identify areas where we could increase contributions and value of the DSS platform and add value.

  6. Approach • Compiling the database • For now, only peer-reviewed, English and French DSS-based publications • Sourced from: • INDEPTH website and contact with sites • PubMed and ISI Web of Science searches using site, country, and key author names • Site reference lists returned to each site for vetting • Analyzing the database • Keyword list customized for DSS relevance • Database contents searched, categorized, and mapped on custom keywords and content

  21. Summing up some preliminary conclusions • Improving concordance with population health needs • For BOD; less so for Risk Factors) •  but still need more focus on neonatal, NCDs and health transition. • Work is highly relevant to the MDG agenda • concordance with burden is still ok • but TB needs greater attention • Strong tradition in efficacy trials has now shifted to effectiveness studies • Still weak on health systems and policy performance / influence • Publication productivity needs to increase beyond 2.5 papers per year per site •  a problem of analytical capacity in sites •  Need better use of young scientists

  22. Way forward for the bibliometrics project Need your input on conclusions from the preliminary descriptive analyses Need your suggestions for DSS case studies to showcase. Need your ideas concerning next steps for using such analyses for advocacy for your collective work
