ETRTO Comments on Test World Tire Results: Key Insights on Winter Tire Performance

This document discusses the questionable tire test results from Test World at -8.5°C, which are notably different from results observed at -8.1°C and other temperatures. By excluding the anomalous data, the findings align with ADAC tests, showing that Nordic tires performed best, followed by winter and all-season tires. The analysis also confirms the importance of the 107% snow braking threshold established by ADAC to effectively differentiate winter tires from summer models, validating its use in classification for "snow."

  3. Test World results • The test results of Test World are questionable at the temperature -8,5°C. Indeed the tests results are significantly different from the results at -8.1°C and from all the other values and cannot be explained. • By removing this column, tests results in average are in line with the tests results of ADAC and show that Nordic tyres are performing the best , then the winter tyres followed by All Seasons tyres. 5. ETRTO test results Test World testing results are based on one tyre size (205/55R16). The same size measured during the TI round robin test confirm the value of the ContiVickingContact compared to Test World results. 7. Threshold ABS Braking on Snow Test Results - ADAC Winter Tire Test 2009 in 205/55 R 16 STD-03-09e ~ 6%* ~ 12%* Threshold area for Snowflake (~ 107%) Snow braking ABS [ADAC grade] * = recalculated data

  8. Conclusions These tests performed by Test World, ADAC and ETRTO shows that the threshold of 107 is challenging and good enough to discriminate summer tyres from winter tyres which is the purpose of the new specification required in order to classify a tyre in the category of use “snow”.
