Understanding and Fixing Dangling Modifiers in Writing
This mini-lesson on dangling modifiers defines what they are and how to correct them for clearer writing. A dangling modifier occurs when the noun or idea intended to be modified is missing from the sentence, leading to confusion. For example, the sentence “Having finished the chores, the TV was turned on” suggests the TV completed the chores. In contrast, the revised sentence clarifies the subject: “Having finished the chores, I turned on the TV.” Learn to identify and revise dangling modifiers to enhance the clarity and effectiveness of your writing.
