  8. Jan 8 (Alabama) Man intentionally leads police into 2 shootouts… • Jan 9 (Texas) Attempted robbery of a female inside a church alone…

  9. Jan 11 (New Jersey) Synagogue bombed…suspect arrested, charged with attempted murder… • Jan 11 (Texas) Man kills girlfriend and then himself…

  21. April 11 (Utah) man and woman set off a homemade bomb in church parking lot • April 22 (Colorado) pastor’s mother shot outside church…died that evening

  22. April 26 (PA) Man stabs another man in an attempted robbery in parking lot • April 27 (OK) Man attacks director of Family Life Center for not receiving the benevolent assistance he wanted

  23. May 2 (GA) Man attacks his wife and son with a knife at a Rescue Mission • May 3 (WA) A makeshift bomb from a gas can through the window of a day care attached to a church

  24. May 3 (Maryland) Angry homeless man shoots and kills the co-pastor and her assistant. He then kills himself behind the church • May 6 (Mass) Woman tries to assault church parking lot attendants with her car (angry at them about another matter)

  25. May 9 (Michigan) Church security guard – a Bronze Star recipient in the Korean War – shot and killed while in the parking lot… • May 11 (Alabama) Man beats a Buddhist Monk to death in the Temple’s cafeteria

  26. May 19 (Indiana) 29-year pastor shot and killed by mentally ill person (he was going to preach the next day on the topic of pastor slayings around the world)… • May 22 (NJ) gunfight between gang members occurs: church bus with 12 children aboard struck – no one hurt…

  27. May 23 (AZ) Man enters church and attempts suicide. Discovered by church worker… • May 24 (AZ) Salvation Army workers searching through donated items turn on a flashlight – it explodes. Minor injuries…

  28. May 25 (NC) Murdered woman found behind church • May 28 (AL) Pastor stabs his brother in altercation at the parsonage…

  29. June 6 (TN) Woman robbed and beaten to death on the steps of her church.. • June 7 (GA) At a funeral, gunfight ensues and 2 are killed

  30. June 22 (CA) Person in car driving by church shoots at a brother and sister walking in front of church. No one hurt • June 22 (AZ) Unknown subject knocks on door of a home church group around midnight. People inside fire multiple shots through the door – no one hurt.

  31. That’s at least57cases of violence on church-related property January 1st, 2012… • 28 shootings • 7 stabbings • 5 robberies • 5 bomb-related • 7 assaults • 3 suicides…

  32. And none of them are “PERSECUTION”

  33. Why be concerned with Church Safety? The “S.O.M.” FACTOR THE Sinfulness Of Man We who read our Bible should have a better understanding of man than anyone!

PAUL THE APOSTLE UNDERSTOOD MAN… • No one understands… • No one seeks for God. • All have turned aside; • Together they have become worthless; • No one does good, not even one. • Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. • The venom of asps is under their lips. • Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. • Their feet are swift to shed blood… • In their paths are ruin and misery • The way of peace they have not known. • There is no fear of God before their eyes.

  38. “…authorities say Sedlacek appeared to have planned the attack, since he referred to Sunday as ‘death day’ on a planner found in his Troy home and he carried enough ammunition to kill 30 people.”

  40. MARK 1… “Jesus lost no time in getting to the meeting place. He spent the day there teaching… Suddenly, while still in the meeting place… Jesus was interrupted by a man who was deeply disturbed and yelling out…"

  42. The biggest obstacle to setting up a church safety plan is a MENTAL BLOCK • The mental block is created by aFAULTY BELIEF • The faulty belief says - “FAITH PROTECTS US FROM HARM” (ESPECIALLY WHEN AT CHURCH)

  43. The death of Job’s children • Saul killed 80 priests • 75 million martyrs since Stephen (Acts 7) • More in the last century than the previous centuries combined (45 million) • Over 200 people killed on church property since March, 1999

  44. Justification for protecting the flock • MATTHEW 10:17 “Be on your GUARD against men; they will flog youIN their synagogues.”

  45. Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him… Jesus’ warning “Beware of men” reveals His understanding of man But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew human nature. No one needed to tell him what mankind is really like.

  46. PROVERBS 22:3 “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”

  47. JOHN 7:1 • THE PRUDENCE OF JESUS… • “…Jesus was going about his business in Galilee. He didn't want to travel in Judea because the Jews there were looking for a chance to kill him.”

  48. REASONS TO PROTECT… • Love - 1 COR 13 • “love…always protects…” • Jesus (John 18) stands up for His disciples when He’s arrested • The Early Church often met in secret • The children are worth it!

  49. The idea of using “force” concerns us… • Did Jesus ever use “force” to accomplish God’s purposes? • Yes He did – in the Temple!

  50. “Let the watchman be fully alert.” “be on guard! “Stay alert” “Keep alert at all times” “Stay alert” “Stay alert and be clearheaded” “Stay alert”
