Role of a School Counselor • Certified educator trained in school counseling. • Address the needs of students through a comprehensive, standards-based, developmental school counseling program. • School counselors work with all students, including those who are considered at-risk and those with special needs.

  4. Comprehensive School Counseling Program • Preventive in design • Developmental in nature • Integral part of the total educational program

  5. Delivery System Addresses how the program will be implemented

  6. Individual Student Planning Counselors Coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to assist the individual student in establishing personal goals and developing future plans.

  7. Responsive Services Activities to meet students immediate needs. These needs may require counseling, consultation, referral, or information

  8. System Support Consists of professional development, consultation, collaboration and teaming • Counselors are involved in updating their leadership and advocacy skills • Professional association membership (ASCA) • Post-graduate education • Work with teachers, staff and parents regularly to address student needs

  9. Counseling Curriculum Structured and developmental classroom/group lessons designed to assist students in achieving academic, career and personal, social success. The purpose is to provide all students the knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level

Student Assistance Counselor • Assist students via group and individual process in an effort to make their middle school years successful and enjoyable • Coordinate several groups that give students opportunities to discuss issues important to them. • Liaison with middle school counselors, teachers, and administrators to create a happy, safe, and healthy atmosphere for all students.
