  2. Commutative Property You can add or multiply numbers in any order. Example: 18+9=9+18 15x2=2x15

  3. Associative Property When you are only adding or only multiplying, you can group any of the numbers together Example: (17+2)+9=17+(2+9) (12x2)x4=12x(2x4)

  4. When you multiply a number times a sum, you can • Find the sum first and then multiply, or • Multiply by each number in the sum and then add. • Example: 6x(10+4)=6x14 • =84 • 6x(10+4)=(6x10)+(6x4) • =60+24 • =84 Distributive Property

  5. Identify the property shown: • 3x(2x6)=(3x2)x6 • 7+18=18+7 • 3(8+4)=(3x8)+(3x4)
