Definitions • Data Capture • By any method: electronic, manual, etc. • Data Factory • A system to store and process data for a particular business area • Data Warehouse • A generic term for a system for storing, retrieving and managing large amounts of any type of data • Data Mart • Database and/or systems designed primarily to address a specific function or department's needs. A subset of the data warehouse sometimes called a departmental data warehouse • Applications • Applications (programs) that provide users data and information

  7. Definitions in FIA Context • Data Capture • PDR program • Data Factory • Editing, processing and compilation system such as NIMS-CS and regional compilation systems • Data Warehouse • FIA doesn’t have a warehouse at this time. • Data Mart • FIADB • Application • MAPMAKER program
