CARACTERISTICAS GENERALES • Por sus caracteres bioquímicos y citológicos son • diferentes de los hongos verdaderos y más • parecidos a ciertas algas: • Componente fibrilar de la pared celular: celulosa • Zoosporas con 2 flagelos anteriores o laterales: 1 • liso hacia atrás, otro barbulado (con mastigonemas) • hacia adelante

CARACTERISTICAS GENERALES • Mitocondrias con crestas tubulares  (aplanadas en hongos y animales) • Ciclo diplofásico (haplofásico o haplo-dicariofásico en hongos), con meiosis gametangial • Síntesis de la lisina: vía del ác. diaminopimélico, como en las plantas (ác. acetoadípico en hongos y animales)

CARACTERISTICAS GENERALES • Modos de vida: • Saprófitos (mohos acuáticos) • Parásitos estrictos o facultativos de organismos acuáticos • Parásitos estrictos de plantas vasculares • Reproducción dependiente de la presencia de agua: • - Asexual por zoosporas y esporangios que se • dispersan enteros • - Sexual por contacto gametangial • Fase de resistencia: zigoto => oospora
