  1. Open Doors! Acts 13

  2. Jerusalem-the-Petty Antioch-the-Great Acts 13: “The Great Divide”

  3. Jerusalem-the-Petty Antioch-the-Great Home of Paul & Barnabus • Home of “The 12” But from those who were of high reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me. Galatians 2:6 James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we mightgo to the Gentiles… Galatians 2:9 Opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality…” Acts 10:34 Acts 13: “The Great Divide”

  4. Jerusalem-the-Petty Antioch-the-Great Home of Paul & Barnabus “Chaotic” Growth • Home of “The 12” • Divisions & Strife So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. Acts 11:19-20 And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those who were circumcised took issue with him, saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them." Acts 11:2-3 Acts 13: “The Great Divide”

  5. Jerusalem-the-Petty Antioch-the-Great Home of Paul & Barnabus “Chaotic” Growth “Peace Movements” Underway • Home of “The 12” • Divisions & Strife • Executions Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to mistreat them. Acts 12:1 [Barnabus] brought [Paul] to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Acts 11:26 Acts 13: “The Great Divide”

  6. Jerusalem-the-Petty Antioch-the-Great Home of Paul & Barnabus “Chaotic” Growth “Peace Movements” Underway Without Class: a true “Body” • Home of “The 12” • Divisions & Strife • Executions • “Religious Elitism” There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 …if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool," have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? James 2:2-4 Acts 13: “The Great Divide”

  8. Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Acts 13:1-2 Don’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but…be anxious to do the will of God. 1 Peter 4:2 Open Doors: Means God’s Viewpoint pray for us, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; Colossians 4:3

  9. “There Goes My Home Church” Open Doors: Means God’s Viewpoint

  10. Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.Acts 13:3 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. Acts 13:4 Open Doors: Means MOVE! And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain— 2 Corinthians 6:1

  11. Acts 13:5-12 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John [Mark] as their helper. When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus, who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him, and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord? "Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord. Open Doors: Mean Opposition for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Cor. 16:9

  13. Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia; but John [Mark] left them and returned to Jerusalem. Acts 13:13 Open Doors: Handling Betrayal & Setbacks
