  1. 6th Grade EPCOT Field Trip Thematic Unit

  2. Itinerary Day 1: Wednesday, May 11, 2011 • Need a ride to school • Bring suitcases-food court, backpack and pillow-homeroom teacher • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, lunch as normal • We will depart school at 12:00 p.m. on fully equipped motor coaches with DVD players and VCRs. • 5:00- Florida-dinner. Rest stop on the way to Orlando. Pizza and drinks will be provided at a rest stop. • Arrive in Orlando around 9:00 p.m. and check into hotel. • Get a good night’s rest at the hotel with private security provided all night for our students.

  3. Baggage and Carry-on items • One piece of luggage can be stored in the baggage compartment of the bus. • Identification tags on all luggage and personal belongings are required.

  4. Carry on Items • What to bring- • DEODORANT • Food for bus ride: drinks in plastic screw top bottles, any snacks (chips, candy, cookies, crackers, … NO gum, cans, or glass bottles) • Things to do on the bus: small hand held electronics, I-pod, phone, camera, books, magazines, or cards. NO laptops or large game systems. • Be sure to keep any snacks, spending money, or other necessities at your seat on the bus. We will not open the storage area until we arrive at the hotel. • ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT! • Cell phones are permitted on the trip. Phones should be labeled. • A pillow and blanket are recommended for the bus ride. • Spending money for souvenirs– A money belt or other travel pouch may be a good idea while on tour. • We can’t say it enough Label! Label! Label! all personal items. • About $30-100 for snacks and gift shop

DAY 2: Thursday, May12, 2011 • Begin the day with breakfast at hotel at 7:00 a.m. Board buses by 8:30 a.m. • Enjoy a learning experience at EPCOT including the World Showcase of Countries throughout the day and evening . • Lunch and dinner on your own at the park. There are many choices available. $15.00 should be sufficient per meals. • Depart EPCOT at closing after the fireworks. • Return to the hotel by 10:30 p.m.

  6. Learning comes alive at Epcot The park is separated into two areas: • The World Showcase of Countries • Future World includes: • The Living Seas • The Land • The World of Energy • Spaceship Earth

  7. EPCOT Germany Pavilion At the World Showcase, students will have an opportunity to explore the world in a day. There are 10 pavilions representing countries from North America, Central America and Europe.

  8. EPCOT: Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow-- FutureWorld Future World is a high tech world where reality is fantastic. There are plenty of incredible experiences that enhance our 6th grade earth science curriculum, such as The World of Energy, Spaceship Earth, The Land and The Living Seas.

  10. Sea World • Buffet breakfast at the hotel at 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. • Depart at 8:30 a.m. for Sea World with everything all packed on the buses. • Students will need to approximately $15 for lunch. • Depart Sea World at 3:30 p.m. (Depending on Shamu!) • Dinner provided (fast food options) • Arrive back at Taylor Road between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. • A posting will be on the Taylor Road website about our estimated arrival time back to TRMS. • Our address is www.trms.ga.net.

  11. Day 3: Friday, May 13, 2011 Sea World Penguin Encounter Polar Exhibit Dolphin Nursery

  12. Chaperones • We will be accompanied by our tour director Bob Mulvihill, of Jim Mulvihill Tours. • One teacher chaperone per 10-12 students. • Students are assigned to the teacher chaperones. • No student will be allowed to leave his/her assigned group. Students will be accompanied to each venue with their assigned teacher chaperone.

  13. Security • Security is provided at the Buena Vista Suites. • Security officers will check each student room every night to insure that all students are locked securely in their rooms. Assigned Taylor Road teachers accompany the officers on the room checks. • The security staff will patrol the hotel hallways all night. • Hotel behavior- quiet, especially when we arrive Buena Vista Suites Hotel 8203 World Center Drive Orlando, Florida 32830 407-239-8581

  14. Clothing • School appropriate clothing is to be worn. • At EPCOT we will wear a designated field trip shirt. • Students should wear comfortable shoes, (no flip flops) while touring. • Bring a jacket, sweater/sweatshirt as well as an umbrella or rain poncho.

  15. Food • Wednesday • Lunch- Students will eat lunch at school on Wednesday afternoon before departing at 12:00 p.m. • Dinner- A pizza dinner will be provided by the school on Wednesday while we are in route to EPCOT. • Snacks- Students may purchase snacks and drinks between meals, at rest stops, and at the hotel. Quarters for vending machines are recommended for purchases. • All snacks brought from home should be placed in a zip- lock bag or a snap-top container. • Pack only drinks that have plastic screw-top bottles. • Thursday • Breakfast at hotel- covered (you do not pay) • Lunch- you pay for (expect to pay $15) • Dinner- you pay for (expect to pay $15) • Friday • Breakfast at hotel- covered (you do not pay) • Lunch- you pay for (expect to pay $15) • Dinner- provided (you do not pay) • Please let us know if you have any special dietary needs.

  16. Trip Study Guides • Students will be given a work packet which will include assignments and writing journal that will cover the objectives of the trip. • All assignments will be collected at the end of the trip. Students will receive credit for their work.

  17. Roommates • Students may choose their roommates. • There will be four to six students in a room. We will try to accommodate students’ requests. • Students may bring sleeping bags if they are small enough to fit in the bin below the bus. • Roommate form
