Image Acquisition – Lessons Learned • Early contract award (or fall acquisition) optimal for success of southern flight (is it possible to reliably meet APFO’s mandate?) • Having a neighboring state to fly helps with efficiencies • Summer haze and low pressure cycles not conducive to high altitude acquisition over large areas • Early spring and fall best acquisition times • Turbulence - Aircraft gets a good shaking - Necessary for multiple redundancy onboard disc backup (MM40) • Don’t try to fly near prominent elected officials

  9. Recommendations • In the south, look at ways to satisfy the APFO without fighting nature. Does early spring or fall photo come close to meeting the crop compliance mandate? • Continue to work towards a consistent delivery acceptance criteria • Support any non proprietary formats

  10. “NAIP 2005 Recommendations” • Image Specifications: Continue to work on the definition of acceptable imagery - especially for 1m states. • Result: Contractors understand the expectations of the USDA and their partners. • Image QC and Acceptance: Further share APFO QC tools and procedures with contractors, so that they are used to check products prior to shipment. • Result: Product acceptance is standardized, first-time acceptance rates will increase and the burden on APFO QC staff is lessened. • Contractor Feedback: Continue to provide performance feedback to contractors on an individual basis. • Result: Contractors can continue to improve performance.
