Session 16 17– School Priorities 2 Key Priorities for school development identified this year …… Excellence through raising attainment and achieving equity Priority 1- To raise attainment and achievement in Numeracy ensuring equity for all learners. Priority 2 -To improve and develop our learning provision for all learners.

  5. YEARLY OVERVIEW- Priority 1- Why?NUMERACY – RAISING ATTAINMENT- With Maths I can !

  6. What that will mean…. • Numeracy- • Provide high quality teaching and learning approaches –including progression for pictorial to concrete to abstract strategies . (SEAL) • Improve children’s attitudes to maths learning and promote a growth mindset approaches • Introduce use of ‘Number talks’ across the school to ensure thinking is visible and children show more confidence and flexibility in mental agility

What that will mean…. • Numeracy- • Moderation across the cluster and strengthening our links with the cluster to improve teacher judgement and planning for next steps. • Raise the profile of numeracy and maths across the curriculum in a number of ways. • Engage and work with parents to be able to support learners at home with numeracy

  8. YEARLY OVERVIEW- Priority 2-Improving the learning environment- developing approaches to personalised support , teaching approaches assessment and profiling, creating a nurturing positive and respectful whole school ethos

What that will mean…. • Improved learning provision – • Greater use of assessment made to plan for next steps in learning and planned interventions. • Continue with the development of profiling and reporting across the school • Nurturing school approaches- meeting learners needs and ensuring all children feel valued and cared for

What that will mean…. • Improving the learning provision • Focus on play based learning to promote creativity, resilience and opportunities for collaboration • Developing our school grounds for outdoor play. • Revising and improving approaches to support positive behaviour and extend pupil leadership opportunities and roles.

We have a copy of this book for all parents and carers in P1 –P3 We would encourage you to read this as the key messages about children and the importance of their time in childhood are clear , sometimes challenging , and thought provoking . Health warning* – Americanised in context, personal opinion , lacks back up with research

Additional Tasks • Use of online journals as part of profiling approaches. – Roisin Thomson • Development of Technologies across the school. –Lorna Gardiner • Ongoing development of other curricular areas- Teachers professional collaborative enquiry groups- Topical Science, Support for learning, Expressive Arts • Pollination project

So far so good…Highlights of the session for our learners and your children have been… • Quality Behaviour challenges – sharing expectations with school about common aspects of conduct. • Welcoming Entrance corridor- Individual self portraits of all pupils • Community building activities across all of our classes. • Staff attending WS Nurture training – understanding of this for the importance for learning .
