  2. Leadership in Change • Times are challenging • Have they ever been easy • For us- never • Where are the leaders from • Why do they do this • What are the challenges • How do we address them

  3. Pick the Battles • Know where you’re going • Decide early and stick with ‘em • Vision, Mission, Values and Principles • More than that • What will it look like when you leave • It is the items that are possible • Have lasting impact

  4. Mine Were/Are • Training- public partnership • Staff expansion- statutory 12 & 17 • Regionalization- Statutory • Practice reform- identified and engrained • Doing it right and well- 30, 30, 30 • Call Center • Advocacy for next leader

  5. In These Times • Look at the next year, plan the next 5 • Theory of small wins- incremental • Be innovative- find a bottleneck: FIX IT • Be out front and open • Find new partners and cultivate • Understand the local finances • Focus on staff

  6. Focus on Staff • This CHANGE is when people in the field believe in what we are trying to do • Understand resistance to change • Know organizational behavior • Understand your role is to influence people • Understand new worker mentality • Understand how to motivate

  7. This really is About Workforce • Can’t work on the margins- out front • External relationships • Follow the data • Know Caseload, outcomes, CFSR, • Be visible, available, approachable • Work with distance communication • Travel, travel, travel • Teach, motivate, guide, show, instill, reward

  8. Targets • New staff • Experienced staff • Supervisors • Immediate reports • Legislature • Media • Executive officer • Partners
