  2. Strategy • destroy as many Jews as possible • overthrow the government in Israel • Claim Israel as their own State. • Negotiations with Israel? NO! • used violence in large attacks on civilians and assassinations on political figures • operated globally • 20 different countries!

Targets • Main targets were moderate Palestinians in Arab Countries as well as Israelis and Jews abroad • hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 -killed 22 • killed more than 20 PLO representatives • Including Abu Iyad (second com. of the PLO in 1991) • Naeb Imran Maaytah (senior Jordanian Diplomat in 1994) • Targets shifted to accommodate state sponsors! • Random targets

  4. Method of Operations • Kidnappings • hijackings of planes to use as missiles • Assassinations • bombs/ grenades • submachine guns

Where Are They Now? • Abu Nidal strategy failed • mistakes made politically and militarily • members of the group say that Abu Nidal committed suicide because he was suffering from cancer. • Found dead in Baghdad with 4 gunshot wounds?? • Attacks have ceased: loss of supporters, no purpose • fight for an Independent Palestinian state is still ongoing.
