Project Gold. K ō whai. Sophora is one of the four genera of native legumes in NZ. There are eight species of k ō whai in NZ but just S. microphylla is widespread in Otago – the prostrate k ō whai S. prostrata is restricted to north Otago (Waitaki Valley).

Project Gold Kōwhai • Sophora is one of the four genera of native legumes in NZ. • There are eight species of kōwhai in NZ but just S. microphylla is widespread in Otago – the prostrate kōwhai S. prostrata is restricted to north Otago (Waitaki Valley). • S. microphylla extends throughout NZ.
