  3. Chapter 11… (review power point slides #6-7 for Illustrations of this answer) • Long distance cellular communication is completed by HORMONES in eukaryotic cells. Hormones can travel long distances in enclosed systems (such as blood vessels) to reach target cells in various parts of the organism’s tissues. • Short distance cellular communication is completed by LOCAL REGULATORS in which cells that are proximal (close) to a target cell will release a regulator that will float in the extracellular fluid to a relatively near cell with the appropriate receptors.
