  4. Academic Aspects • Academic year runs from October to June • Most degrees are only 3 years with Honours • Australian Yr 12 and IB accepted

  5. Applying: Undergraduate degrees • Centralised application system- UCAS • On line at www.ucas.com • Apply for up to 6 courses • Results not the only consideration: • Personal Statement • Reference from School

  6. Personal statement • Why you chose the course/field of study? • Future career plans? • Academic, sporting or other achievements • Positions of leadership, team player • Extra curricular activities • Why the UK?

  7. Reference • Principal, head of year or appropriate person (not family or friends) • Achievements • Motivation and commitment • Potential to succeed including predicted results

  8. When to apply? • September 1st -applications open • June 30th -applications close • January 15th -UK and EU students Note early deadlines of: • October 15th – for Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Vet Science and Dentist

  9. Oxford and Cambridge • Cannot apply to both at first degree level • Must complete application to college at either O or C • Submit UCAS and Oxbridge form by 15th October.

  16. Costs • Vary: $15,000 - $30,000 PA • Living: approx $15,000 PA • Some scholarships: • British Council website • Individual universities • Student Visa can work up to 20 hrs/week, and f/t during holidays
