  1. Far-Reaching Effects of Sin Must Use God’s Word! For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. (Rom. 15:4) Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. (1 Cor. 10:11).

  2. Sin Is Progressive • But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Tim. 3:13). • But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort. (2 Tim. 2:16-17).

  3. Each Responsible For Own sin • Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall the children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deut.24:16) • The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. (Ezek. 18:20)

  4. Sins May influence Future Generations • You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me. (Exod. 20:5) • Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation. (Exod. 34:7)

  5. Effects of False Religion • Manasseh (2 Chron. 33:1-25) • Had a good father: Hezekiah (31:20-21) • Did much evil (2 Chron. 33:2-9) • Chastened by God, but would not heed God’s chastening (v. 10-11) • Repented late in life; but not turn hearts of people back to God (v. 12-13) • His son Amon followed his evil ways (v. 21-23) • False religion rejects God, condones immorality, leads to many great evils, and in the end causes the loss of many souls.

  6. Effects of Adultery • David’s Sin With Bathsheba (2 Sam. 11) • Lusted, Invited In, Committed Adultery, Lied, Murdered… • Adversity in his own house (2 Sam. 12:11) • Lost son (12:14, 19) • Son raped his daughter (13:14); saw something he wanted and took it—where did he learn this? • David’s sin put him in a weakened position to carry out the law for Amnon’s sin. • Absalom killed Amnon (13:29) • Absalom tried to steal the throne from David

  7. Effects of Forsaking Assembly • Commanded to Assemble (Heb. 10:25) • Grow weak (Heb. 5:12-14) • Forget the great sacrifice (2 Pet. 1:5-11, 12) • Fail to put God first in other areas (Matt. 6:33) • Thorns & weeds grow in our lives (Lk. 8:14) • What are we teaching our children? • A generation grows up not knowing God (Jud. 2:7-10)

  8. Have You Considered the Consequences of NOT Obeying the Lord? “…to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power” (2 Thess. 1:7-9).

  9. Effects of Bitterness • Root: something grows from a root (Heb. 12:14-17) • Say or do something later regret—especially regret after seeing the harm done • Bitterness may cause others to be defiled

  10. Effects of Greed • Judas (Matt. 27:3-5) • Later regret—could not undo the harm • Career choice • Overspend: credit cards, big house, car • Gamble • Cheat employer or employees • Steal

  11. Effects of Evolution—Humanism • Atheism: No God • No reason for right or wrong • Denial of God: Foolish (Psa. 14:1; Rom. 1:20-23) • Human life expendable: Abortion, Euthanasia, Holocaust • Theistic evolution—Compromise

  12. Effects of Ignorance • Study needed in order to accurately handle the Word of God (2 Tim. 2:15) • Needful for recognizing false doctrine (2 Pet. 3:17-18) • Parental duty to teach (Deut. 6:4-9) • Failure brings apostasy (Jud. 2:10-11) • Brings spiritual destruction (Hos. 4:6)
