  3. English • Reading - Guided reading, Independent reading and activities • Phonics/Spelling - 20 minutes a day • Writing • Handwriting – Daily • Speaking and Listening (Talk For Writing)

Reading at Home Children make much more progress in their reading if they read at home on a daily basis, this does not have to be just school books. - Children are asked to change their own books as and when they need to. They are asked every morning if they need changing. - School books and yellow reading records should be brought into school every day.

  8. PE and Games Monday and Thursdays Children need a white t-shirt, black shorts, pumps or trainers. Please ensure all earrings are removed on these days or plasters are provided for the child to cover their earrings. For outdoor games, children need trainers and black tracksuit bottoms or black shorts. For the winter months they may also wish to have a jumper.

Homework • Reading – daily, we ask for books to be changed weekly and to always be in school. • Maths, English, Handwriting or Foundation Subjects – weekly on a Friday, to be handed in the following Thursday. • Spelling – new spelling on a Friday and a weekly challenge the following Friday. These are in the back of the homework book. Please write in your child’s reading record book when you have listened to them read. Your child will then be responsible for changing their own books.

  10. How you can help Please ensure that your child is in school on time. Try to ensure regular bedtimes. Please try to avoid holidays during term time. Please talk to us (e.g. medical conditions/personal issues). Ask your child about their day. We NEVER do ‘nothing’! Please celebrate your children’s achievements. If possible could you order your child’s dinner at home. No toys! We will be sharing special items on a Friday afternoon during Show and Tell.

  13. Year 2 Special Challenges The Year 2 Special Challenges take place in the Spring term. There will be a meeting to inform you about them, where more information will follow.
