  2. Recall from elementary school… long division. Answer 5 7 3 22 7861  Dividend - 66 Divisor 12 6 110 16 1 154  Remainder 7

Division can also be done with polynomial expressions instead of numbers. eg. 1 play by play x + 2 1. divide x2 by x gives x x+2 x2 + 4x + 4 2. multiply x by 2 gives 2x x2 - + 2x 3. subtract and bring down the 4 + 4 2x 0 2x - + 4 4. divide 2x by x gives 2 0 5. multiply 2 by 2 gives 4 6. subtract and get remainder Check answer (x+2) (x+2) = x2 + 2x +2x + 4 = x2 + 4x + 4
