Ireland’s geography • Irelands’ area is 27,135 square miles. • Some say that Ireland is like a badly baked pie, with mountains on the outside and lakes plains and bogs on the inside. • The longest river in Ireland is the Shannon River. • Ireland is right off the western coast of England and is part of Europe.

  3. People of Ireland • The Official language of Ireland is English, and Irish Gaelic. • About 87% of Ireland is Roman Catholic. • The life expectancy for men is 76 and 81 for women. • The literacy rate for men and women is 99%.

  4. Irelands’ Government • Ireland is a republic with a parliamentary system of Government. It could also be called a democracy. • The current president of Ireland is Mary McAleese.

  5. Irelands’ Economy • Irelands’ biggest industry is farming. • The GDP in this country is about $282 Billion US dollars at current prices – 2008
