  1. Research project: Assessment Criteria – Planning (P) ,Research (R), Development (D), Evaluation (E) Due:4thApril 2014 How can we help our neighbours? Design Brief: A Chinese orphanage is in need of interactive and cost effective toys that will help to entertain the children, give them a sense of belonging and help them to care for something they own. Your school has been asked to propose a project idea that will help to fulfill the needs of these children. With this in mind complete your own DESIGN BRIEF for this project. User: You will need to choose the gender, age and characteristics of the children at the orphanage that you will study and provide for. They may befrom broken families, mayhave been abandoned early on in their lives and mayhave many struggles in their life. They are in need of love and attention and it would be great if these toys could build a sense of togetherness and interaction between children and the adults caring for them. You may use a partner class in the CKY Primary School section in order to relate yourself to the likes and dislikes of children at a specific age or gender. Don’t forget you will need to consider that these children will have different socio-economic backgrounds than your target market. BAMBOO BIRTH Due: 30th March, 2011 Project plan > Teacher approval: Yes ☐ Needs more work ☐ _________________________________________________________

  2. Planning (P) Planning Defining the problem  Identification of problems or need  Brainstorm and analyse all areas of the problem or need, include a moodboard which graphically represents the problem Mind map of any problems associated with the issue Evidence of the issue (research and data to prove need) Feasibility study and task analysis – shows links to cost, time, facilities, resources and scope Correct referencing Fomulating the brief and research question State and justify the design brief, finishing with a design goal of what you intend to make Clear target market Major constraints listed and explain how it relates to your project Success criteria created Correct referencing Selecting variables and specification points Analyse your design brief Initial specification points linked to your design brief Specification points are justified, explained and measureable Reflect and add revision of specification points Correct referencing

  3. Research (R) Checklist – Research Strategies A written research plan with priorities of what you will research Primary and secondary sources of data Identified both qualitative and quantitative data Correct referencing where appropriate Data collection Research and data is focused and appropriate to project Balance between qualitative and quantitative Presented research in a variety of forms (graphs, tables, diagrams, drawings and photographs Research and data includes labelling and explanations of outcomes Data processing and analysis You have processed raw data and presented in an astute (clear) manner You have transformed data into a suitable form for analysis (graph, table etc) Your written analysis is detailed and explains how your design brief can be answered You have analysed the relevance and usefulness of your data You have identified any errors or uncertainties you encountered throughout your research/ data You have assessed and commented on the reliability of your data You have used correct referencing

  4. Development (D) Development Creativity • You have 5-6 original and creative ideas • You have used freehand sketching to show your ideas • Sketching and written information is completed to a high standard • You have annotated manufacturing methods and joining techniques suitable to your solution • You have explained how your design meets your design specification • You have explained strengths and weaknesses of your design • Your research has informed your design ideas • Techniques • You have used freehand drawing techniques. • You have used isometric drawing techniques. • You have used exploded drawing techniques. • You have used perspective-drawing techniques. • You have used CAD drawing techniques. • Solution • You have described your final design in detail. • You have used correct symbols in your working drawing. • You have included dimensions on your solution. • You have listed joints/construction techniques. • You have a parts list. • You have listed tolerances for your solution. • You have explained the finish of your solution. • You have listed the materials needed to make your solution. • You have a detailed plan of production.
