SWLA MEN’S COMMISSION INITIATIVE

Join us for the SWLA Men's Commission Initiative's initial meeting on June 14, 2011, at 11:30 AM at City Hall, 10th Floor, led by Mayor Randy Roach. This meeting will cover the commission's vision, goals, and strategies aimed at empowering men and young boys in our community. Discuss action steps to promote responsibility, support systems, and enhance family and community involvement. Together, we will work towards building strong, responsible men and improving social conditions. Save the date for our next meeting at noon!

VISION • Leadership to encourage men and young men • Promoting role modeling behaviors at local levels • Facilitating child raising and family living skills • Promoting responsibility and family life • Encouraging sharing of knowledge • Identifying strong support systems • Supporting faith, hope and inspiration • Facilitating recreation, awareness and involvement

OUTCOMES • Strengthen men-youth relationships • Improved social conditions • Lower crime rate, cost of detention and incarceration, child abuse rates, domestic violence rates, single moms, drug use • Superior responsibility for the role of men in society • Enhanced social/intellectual capital • Reduced number of children in foster care • Increased number of men in community leadership roles • Improved education results • Stronger and responsible men

STRATEGIES • Solidify “THE A-TEAM” (leadership team) • Develop a MISSION and VISION statements to drive activities of the commission and VALUES STATEMENTS to guide the work • Establish THE COMMISSION • Plan THE CONFERENCE (to include practical learning, faith and hope, social responsibility and FUN • Build THE MEMBERSHIP
