  5. Angles & Symmetry

  6. Our Mission Learnhow to describe and classify angles

  7. Can you make a sentence for each word? • Angle • Vertex • Acute Angle • Right Angle • Obtuse Angle • Straight Angle • Degrees • Protractor

  8. Before Quiz How well do you know your angles? Take the “before” and “after” quiz to see what you learn! Circle true or false for each statement Ready, Set, Go!

  9. An angle is formed by two rays with a common endpoint, called the vertex. An angle can be named by its vertex. Angles are measured in degrees. The number of degrees determines the type of angle. Use the symbol °to show degrees.

  10. Reading Math mFGH is read “the measure of angle FGH.”

  11. Reading Math Right angles are usually marked with a symbol. An acute angle measures less than 90°. A right angle measures exactly 90°.

  12. A-Cute Angle • What else do we know that is cute? Kitten, baby, little puppy? These are all SMALL things, just like Acute angles!

  13. An obtuse angle measures more than 90° and less than 180°. A straight angle measures exactly 180°.

  14. obtuse Angle • What does it sound like? OBSESE LARGE

  15. You Try! Classify each angle!

  16. Angle Match • In each group, you must cut out and sort the cards into their different angle “families”

  17. Homework Create your own index card activity as the “angle match.” • Must have 10 cards • Must have all four angle types • Find pictures that have these angles. You may: • Find in magazines • clip-art • draw, take pictures
