  2. Objectives • The official DeSurvey website is http://www.desurvey.net • Objectives • To present the project in terms of concepts and methodologies • To promote the availability and visibility of the project outcomes • To present the consortium • To inform users/partners (e.g. news, events, …) • To coordinate the actions (e.g. meetings, administrative reports, …) • To centralize information (e.g. internal/official documentation)

Website status (1/2) • During the 1st year, NOVELTIS has implemented the website including • A public section to present the project at the international scale • A private section to support the coordination of actions • In addition, this section allows to test modules presentation, before transferring them to the public section • Statistics • ~ 2900 connections to the website during the 1st year • Probably, most of them are from the partners • In the next weeks, more statistics will be compiled • Information concerning the persons who connect to the web site will be available: for example, country domain

  4. Website status (2/2) • Registration of the website in the main search engines • DeSurvey is properly registred in Yahoo • The registration in Google and MSN needs to be improved

  5. Public section (1/5) • What can you find in the public section ? • Description of the objectives • Project organisation with a list of modules and WPs • List and coordinates of participants • Focal point: Prof. Juan Puigdefabregas • Description of the test sites • Executive summary • List of news and events • DeSurvey meetings, International conference announcements, Publications, … • Public project documentation • Links to websites related to desertification • Forum (not used yet)

  7. Public section (3/5) • Required and missing information for the public section concerning • …the project organisation • For each module/WP, a summary is expected (1/2 page + illustrations) • Module/WP leaders have to provide this summary

  8. Public section (4/5) • Required and missing information for the public section concerning • … the list of participants • Several partners (25 %) have not provided a logo of their institute and not checked their information yet (mail, address, e-mail and involved people) • Evora Univ., KCL, CAS-IRSA, DLR, NRD-UNISS, UAL, CRF, IRA, UCH

  9. Public section (5/5) • Required and missing information for the public section concerning • …the description of the test sites • A template has been proposed to present the test sites including a photo album • Status of the 5 European test sites : • Re-organisation of the photo album with legends • Status of the 3rd country states sites, • only 1 site (over 7) is documented but without photos • Information is required for the test sites according to the same template and illustrations

  10. Conclusion of the public section • Status of the public website : • The website is reduced to the presentation of the objectives of project • After 1 year of developments, it is time to present the first results and to show them on the web • What shall we present ? • How can we present our first results ? • The private section can be considered as a first step before transferring results to the public official website

  11. Private section (1/4) • What can you find in the private section ? • Important announcements are displayed on the intranet web page • Several menus related to • The modules • The project management • The test sites • The meetings • The documentation • The forum • Access to the private section • Login : desurvey Password : des05

  12. Private section (2/4) • Module sections • All the module sections correspond now to a minimal version including • 1 home page with a description of its objectives and a contact • 1 page for each wp (description + contact) • These pages are made of a cut & paste of the proposal document • In the better case, some documents have been attached to these pages • Urgent need to improve these module pages • They shall be considered as the most important sources of technical information • They must show the work carried out by the module partners • They are the first version of the information that will be transferred then to the public web

  13. Private section (3/4) • Management web pages • Link to the website of Ulf HELLDEN : http://www.nateko.lu.se • Presentation of the management structure • Need to develop a web page for each structure (the CIPUD pages are already set up) • Use for contractual aspects • Gender action plan • Reporting for the 1st period • Intellectual property

  14. Private section (4/4) • Test sites • Same pages as public section + database information • Documentation • At the level of the project • Project documentation, strategy plan, deliverables, … • At the level of the meetings • Minutes • Please, don’t forget to send me copies of your documentation and deliverables even if you send them to Ulf and Juan

  15. Development policy • If possible, do not develop your own web pages related to the project in your institutes • Contribution to the DeSurvey website is preferable • Importance to have only one central access point • Multiple http accesses are not comfortable for partners and users • Centralization of all information regarding the project • Homogeneity and consistency of the official web pages • If you have developed your own web pages, we shall consider whether • These web pages should be transferred in the official website • We should include a link towards your local web pages

  16. Conclusion • The website is the showcase of your activities • The website quality (in terms of information content) relies on the availability of suitable inputs • Your cooperation to provide these inputs is expected • The website must live • Updated information regarding results, conference announcement, publications, web links, etc. • Illustrations increase the look and feel of the website • A forum facility is available to foster mutual discussions between the project partners and external users • But up to now, the forum is not used • I need to cooperate with module and WP leaders • I suggest to have a discussion tomorrow at 17:00 • Typically, half an hour is enough to address most of points
