The Patriot Act and Terrorism Surveillance Post-Afghanistan Invasion
Following the American invasion of Afghanistan, the Patriot Act was implemented to enhance national security. This legislation allowed for the detention of individuals suspected of having ties to terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda, with many being transported to Guantánamo Bay. The U.S. government maintained strict immigration standards to prevent potential terrorists from entering the country, closely monitoring individuals to identify threats. The balance between national security and civil liberties remains a contentious issue in American society.
