University Camps (Summer Camps) • Summer camps at Universities are one of the MOST important ways for coaches to evaluate talent. • It allows them an up close and personal look at prospects; • it allows them to see if potential prospects can take college level coaching • it allows them to see players go against other top prospects in a closed setting.

  7. University Camps (Summer Camps) • The majority of you will need to send your kid to at least 1-2 camps during his HS career to get exposure. • Where and to which camps should I send my child?

  8. DEFINITION OF an Unofficial Visit • As a high school student-athlete looking for a college scholarship you may be aware of Official and Unofficial Visits to college campuses. It is important as you become a college prospect that you take visits to see what the college has to offer. Things you can check out on your visit are the athletic facilities, the layout of the campus, the atmosphere of the school on game day, and if you are on an official visit you’ll meet the coaching staff. There are rules the NCAA has in place on visits. • Unofficial Visit:Anytime you or your legal guardians visit a college campus that is funded by you. You can take as many unofficial visits as you would like. During dead periods you cannot speak to any of the coaches while visiting the campus. Three free tickets to a home game is the only thing a coach can give you during an unofficial visit.

  9. Unofficial Visit • An unofficial visit is any visit to a college campus that is NOT funded by the institution. • A school is able to provide tickets to up to 3 sporting events under $100 • You may not take an unofficial visit during a dead period (link to Contact Periods section). • You are allowed an unlimited number of unofficial visits to schools at all divisions.

  11. Types of Unofficial Visits • Invites • Junior Days • Spring Practice • Camps (SEE CAMPS SECTION) • Spring Games • Games • -Personal Visits

  12. Junior Days • Allow prospects a chance to see the school in person. • Allow coaches to evaluate prospects up close and in person before sending camp invites. KIDS GET OFFERS AT JUNIOR DAY! • NOTE: THESE ARE OFTEN TIMES INVITE ONLY!

  13. Spring Practice • a great way for a prospect to see his potential teammates and coaches in a realistic collegiate setting • Prospects can see if the school is the right fit just by attending one or two practices. • NOT ALWAYS invite only! • Oftentimes you can go see practice just by contacting a coach!

  14. Games • Regular Season • Spring Games

  15. Regular Season Games • Prospects can be invited to football games by universities. They will be allowed 3 tickets (1 for prospect and 2 other guests), but must pay for their own way to the game as well as for food, souvenirs, or any other potential perks per NCAA rules. • This constitutes an unofficial visit.

  16. Regular Season Games • The purpose of these unofficial visits is to allow the prospect an opportunity to see what the gameday atmosphere is like at a given institute.

  17. Spring Games • TOP PROSPECTS ARE ALWAYS INVITED TO SPRING GAMES! • potential prospects are often allowed to come as well so feel free to ask a coach • Other prospects will be campus and it’s a great way to interact with them.

  18. Personal/Campus Visits • Prospects are welcome (and even encouraged) to visit universities during their time in high school. These visits are similar to unofficial visits, so the same NCAA rules apply. • CAN TAKE AN IN DEPTH LOOK AT ACADEMICS • EXCLUSIVE TIME WITH THE COACHES • PERSONALIZED TOURS OF ACADEMICS AND ATHLETIC FACILITIES

  19. Questions about Unofficial Visits • When can I take an unofficial visit? • Unofficial visits can be taken as early as freshman year. • What will happen during my unofficial visit? • Every unofficial visit is different and a lot depends on whether or not the coach has seen you play before the visit takes place. Typically, a coach will talk to you and your parents about their institution and athletic program and they will give you a brief tour of the athletic facilities.

  20. Preparing for an Unofficial Visit • How do I prepare for an unofficial visit? • make sure the coach has viewed your film prior to the visit. Ask the coach if they can schedule an admissions interview while on campus. Bring a few copies of your NCSA Recruiting Profile if you have it. But most importantly, bring a prepared list of questions. Don’t forget to bring a pen and paper to take notes. • What should I wear? • Look presentable. You do not need to be in or suit, but you do want to make a good impression on the coach.

  21. Scheduling Unofficial Visits • How do I schedule an unofficial visit? • Contact the coach and inform him that you would like to schedule an unofficial visit. Coaches will usually be very receptive. Sometimes a coach will ask you to set-up a visit. • When should visits be scheduled? • You should be trying to schedule visits right away. The best time to make visits during junior year is spring and summer. Remember that December and early January are often times when coaches are on winter vacation. Some coaches may be out of the office during the summer and coaches are often very busy during their season as well.

  22. Additional Info • For a listing of Spring game dates go to : • http://www.fbschedules.com/spring-football-game-schedule/

  23. Talking with Coaches on Unofficial Visits • Can a coach offer me a scholarship during an unofficial visit? • If a coach has seen you play, they may give you an indication of their level of interest. In some cases, verbal scholarship offers are extended on unofficial visits. • Are there specific questions I should ask a coach on an unofficial visit? • If you know a coach has seen you play, you should ask them where you stand on their recruiting list. Ask where they will be recruiting so you can hopefully coordinate a time for them to watch you play. Otherwise, refer to the questions section and choose a few that apply to you and that school.
