  4. Cooling Tips AIR CONDITIONING UNIT • Purchase air conditioning unit with higher Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER); • Install in coolest and shady part of the room; • Reduction of heat gain; Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)

  5. Cooling Tips AIR CONDITIONING UNIT • Set the thermostat at comfortable temperature; • Use fans in conjunction with your air conditioning unit; • Seal and insulate ductwork; • Keep your air conditioning unit clean; and • Have your cooling system checked annually.

  6. Cooling Tips ELECTRIC FAN • Set fan setting at comfortable level; • Use fan with timer; • Switch off oscillator; • Regular cleaning; and • Use hand fan.

  7. Heating Tips WATER HEATER • Lower the thermostat; • Repair leaky faucets; • Use cold water when possible; • Insulate water heater and pipes; • Reduce the amount of water use; • Install aerating, low-flow faucets and showerheads; • Replace your water heater; and • Conduct regular inspection.

Cooking Tips • Don’t use the stove as a heating device; • Keep lid on pots and pans while cooking; • Use proper size pan on stove top burner; • Cook as many things as possible at same time; • Keep oven door closed while cooking; • Don’t over cook food; • Microwave foods when possible; and • Use pressurized cooker.

  9. Refrigerator/Freezer Tips • Consider refrigerator that suits your need with a higher Energy Efficiency Factor (EEF).

Refrigerator/Freezer Tips • Keep the coils clean; • Don’t keep the door open; • Make sure the door seals are airtight; • Set the temperature of the refrigerator between 3o and 4oC, set the freezer between -18o and -15oC; • Keep the freezer full, even if you just fill it with containers of water; and • Defrost freezer when the ice is ¼” thick.

  11. Lighting Tips • Turn lights off in any room you’re not using; • Use task lighting; • Keep bulbs and luminaires clean; and • Take advantage of day-light.

  12. Lighting Tips • Change incandescent bulbs (Ibs) to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs);and • CFLs use 1/5th of the energy of Ibs, last 8 times longer and are cost effective.

  13. Lighting Tips • Look for Energy Label Guide when buying CFLs.

  14. Other Energy Saving Tips • Set appliances and equipment to energy saving features; • Use laptop computers; • Use inkjet printers; and • Use email.

  15. Phantom Loads • Phantom load is an electrical device that is operating 24 hours a day 365 days a year, even if you think the device is turned off.

  17. Driving Tips • Monitor fuel consumption; • Plan your journey; • Drive sensibly; • Gas up wisely; • Maintain a constant speed; • Pick a lane and stay on it;

Driving Tips • 24.4 TO 33% greenhouse gas emissions in the country comes from road vehicles; • 70-90% of particulate matter pollution in Metro Manila comes from vehicles; • Globally, nearly half of the petroleum supply goes to road vehicles; and • Always remember that every liter of gasoline your car burns puts 2.4 kilograms of CO2 into the air.
