  1. Welcome to Class Mrs. Woodruff

  2. Basic Computer Procedures When you come into class, check to see that everything is OK at your station. You will be assigned seats and you are responsible for your area. You need to report it immediately if something is wrong, missing, damaged, etc. so the responsible person can be contacted.

  3. Basic Computer Procedures You should always save starting with your LAST Name, then what the assignment is. Example: Woodruff_demo or Woodruff_page23

  4. If an assignment is turned in without the proper name, it will NOT be graded.

  5. Basic Computer Procedures (con’t) When saving for this class, you should save in your SERVER Docs. (they can be accessed at any computer on campus OR from your home computer with internet) • If you save to your Documents in the library it will save ONLY to the computer you are working at; you will not be able to open it on any other computer.

  6. Basic Computer Procedures (con’t) • You can access your computer files at home. Go to portal.dvusd.org/ • Log in the same as you do at school. • On the left side go to My Documents, • then Users, • Click on the triangle by your name & you should see your file. • Note: There is sometimes a problem saving BACK to the server so email the edited version back to yourself so you can open it and save it when you are on a school computer.

  7. CTE Templates On your desktop there is a icon with the title: CTE Templates We will use this often. Inside this folder are two folders: Hand In and Hand Out They work just like handing out or in assignments/papers, but it is done electronically.

  8. CTE Templates (con’t) • The teacher “hands out” assignments, so you would go to the Hand out folder to get your assignment. • Students “hand in” their assignments, so you would turn your work into the Hand In folder.

  9. CTE Templates (con’t) • You can open a document in the Hand Out folder, however, to save that document to your computer you need to use the SAVE AS option and be sure to choose your Server Docs. • SAVE will save a file for the first time OR will update a file you are working on. • SAVE AS will allow you to rename a document, retaining the original AND a new document with the same content BUT a new name.
