  26. SACRED SITES OF ISLAM • Mecca Pilgrimage to Mecca, specifically the Kaaba, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Mecca is the location where Muhammad received the revelation of the Quran and preached his first sermons. 2. Medina Ziyara means a visit to a Muslim holy place or tomb, but it refers specifically to the pilgrimage to Muhammad's tomb in Medina. Muhammad fled to Medina when Mecca became dangerous.
