  1. New Norwegian National Seismic Network Jens Havskov, University of Bergen Jan Fyen, NORSAR Presented at Nordic Detection Seminar, Oslo , June 4-6, 2008

  2. Seismic stations in time

  3. Stations in old NNSN to be used in new NNSN Norwegian National Seismic Network and other seismic stations in Norway. Blue symbols are NNSN stations and red are NORSAR arrays. The station JMIC is operated by NORSAR.

  4. NORSAR stations

  5. 10 NORSAR stations to be added NORSAR will contribute near real-time data from three-component broadband stations to NNSN as follows: NOA: one station from each of the 7 subarrays. 6 KS54000, response flat to acceleration. 1 CMG-3T, response flat to velocity. ARCES: 1 CMG-3T, response flat to velocity. SPITS: 1 CMG-3TB, response flat to acceleration. JMIC: 1 STS-2, response flat to velocity. Currently 2 stations are included

  6. Stations outside Norway • 3 Finish stations have been added • 3 Danish stations have been added • 4 British stations have been added

  7. Stations in new network Blue: Existing NNSN Red: NORSAR White: Outside Yellow: New 2008

  8. Norwegian National Seismic Network database, 1980-2006 40 000 seismic events located with NNSN and other stations

  9. Earthquakes 1990-2004 Four earthquakes are located per day. Known and presumed explosion are not included.

  10. Earthquakes 1980-2006, M >3.5

  11. Number of events per year, 1990-2004

  12. Large events located 1990-2004

  13. Felt earthquakes, 1990-2004

  14. New NNSN data Flow Real time data export Real time display NORSAR array solutions SEISCOMP SEEDLINK SERVER Stations with SEEDLink servers Continuous data SEISAN DATA BASE SEISNET EARTWORM Triggering Seismogram generation Triggers

  15. Communication for NNSN • Fixed internet, free • Internt with ADSL, cheap • Interent with ISDN, expensive • Internet with mobile phone (3G, Edge or GPRS), medium price

  16. SEEDLink • Data transmitted in standardized MiniSeed format 512 byte blocks. • Retransmission and error correction • SEEDLINK server made by GFZ-Potsdam and integrated in their SEISCOMP acquisition system • Used for GEOFON network and others

  17. Triggering • Real time data triggered by EartWorm • Array solutions and EarthWorm triggers combined with SEISNET • Alternative RTDET to EarthWorm being tested • Real time triggering combining array and network data will be developed, mainly by NORSAR

  18. Real time monitoring, 15 minutes of data

  19. Event detection RTDET Event detected by RTDE. Uses SEEDLINK as input.

  20. NNSN processing and data access Public data access to events and waveform data NNSN SEISAN data base NORSAR processing Bergen processing Information to the public about Norwegian seismic events

  21. SEISAN data base • All waveform data stored in MiniSEED in new network • Parameter data stored in Nordic format • All events stored separately in event waveform files • Continuous data stored in 1 hour files in a SEISAN continuous data base • All files can be downloaded by ftp or through web server

  22. Web interface to NNSN data Existing version, new to be made

  23. Public display of recent earthquakes One week of NORSAR data 10 days of Bergen data May 24-30, 2008 May 21-30, 2008

  24. EARTHWORM helicorder plot

  25. Developments • Upgrade network to real time for all stations • Upgrade and install new broad band stations • Include non Norwegian stations • Test and tune EarthWorm • Develop routines for joint NORSAR-Bergen processing • Develop a system for real time integration of array and network data • Develop a new shared web page New NNSN is expected to be in full time opration at end of 2008
