Launching EDU-CANADA 2006Defining our mandate and activities Edu-Canada was created with four key pillars: • coordinate the efforts of Canadian missions abroad in education promotion; • facilitate relations and resource development between provinces, NGOs and Canadian missions abroad; • promote Canadian education at signature events; • coordinate a consistent brand and strategy. Edu-Canada is part of the International Education and Youth Division and aligns its efforts with other DFAIT programs such as scholarships and Canadian studies.
International StudentsWhy international mobility matters • Enriched learning and research with international perspectives; • Future partners in trade, political relations and global leadership; • International students contribute an estimated $5 billion in Canada annually through tuition, living expenses, travel while in Canada and visits from family abroad (2004 estimate); • International students can work off-campus while studying, to fill critical labour market gaps in regions and economic sectors in Canada; • International students in Canada are a desirable source of potential immigrants to fill skills shortages in Canadian communities; • Researchers and faculty on exchanges can be recruited to fill places left by retiring faculty at post-secondary institutions.
