Introduction: Grade 8 Core FrenchWhy learn French???? • French is spoken in TWO of the G8 countries • Over 50,000 English words have their origin in French. • French is the most widely taught second language after English. • Montréal is the second largest French-Speaking city in the world. • Employment: Learning French gives you an advantage in the work field. • French is spoken in over 43 countries in the world. • Learning a second language can be fun and exciting if you let it!!!!

  3. Introduction Cont. Course Outline • September • Review vocabulary (numbers, colours etc.), verbs, and basic expressions • October – November • Unit 1: Natalie au Québec – Exploring Quebec with Natalie as she learns about the culture and customs. • November – January • Unit 2: Pauvre Alphonse – Learning how to describe people based on their appearance and clothing.

Rules and Expectations “ Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” • Homework and assignments • Submit on time • Neat and legible • No talking when….. • Teacher is talking • During presentations • During tests • During discussions unless hand is up and you have Permission. • Effort • Always try your best because it will show • Respect • Show respect to everyone in the classroom at ALL times

Washroom use • Ask en français before going • Sign in and out • Always take a hall pass • One girl and one boy out at a time • *NO EXCEPTIONS • Organization • Best way to organize yourself • Have a separate binder or a separate section for French. • Keep all handouts together as I give them to you. You will refer to them through out the year.

  6. Some final reminders…. • Ask if you are not sure • Come to class prepared • Demonstrate a positive attitude • Make the best of the situation • HAVE FUN (Bored People are Boring!!!!)
