Extending Patient Contact 2013-2014
General feedback • Mostly positive! • But there are some suggestions for improvement
Schedule • In line with the one provided by the school • Planned not improvised • Overview of the session’s activities and objectives at the start
Teaching • Centred around the module topic e.g. metabolism • Preferably done at the start of each lesson • Group discussion • Good to build upon skills taught at uni • Relevant printouts are welcomed
Patients • Relevant patients for us to meet • E.g. someone with Parkinson’s for Brain and Behaviour • Practise history taking • Supervised/in pairs • Maybe even examine patients under supervision • Skills relevant to OSCEs
MDT • Interesting/useful to sit in with another profession involved in the practice • E.g. nurses, health visitors etc. • Provides a more holistic teaching
Personal development • Thought-provoking questions • Short time for reflection at the end of each session • Doctor-patient relationship • What it means to be a good doctor
