  2. Note: As in the other tutorials, all menu items that need to be selected will be preceded by a maroon right arrow: >User action. Step1.Open MSC.SOFY Database. c • Launch MSC.SOFY according to your local configuration. • Choose >LS-DYNA mode from the entry screen. • Open the SOFY database of a Body model: File >Open. • In the File Open dialog, browse to the file you created in Tutorial D2 (body_w_dummy.sof ) • Click >Open. • The model is a partial vehicle model with Occupant model in driver's position.

Step2.Set Seat Belt Options. a Set Seat Belt Options: • From >Modules menu> select >Safety >Seat Belt Options. • Enter in the desired parameters for the shoulder belt. • Click>Apply • Click >Exit. • Now select >Modules > Safety >Route Seat Belt. • You are prompted to "Pick Shell Elements to Wrap." • Open Extended Pick Dialog (EPD) by clicking >D at left side of Pick block. • In EPD> select >From Part for Pick Elm by Ref. select >Shell for "Element type." • Keep EPD open.

Create Shoulder Belt. a Now, for shoulder belt : • Select >chest >hip >thigh of the occupant model. • Confirm with >2B. • The message area now asks you to pick three nodes where the first two are the slip ring nodes. • Select a >node on the upper lock pillar, near the occupant's shoulder & head. • Select second >node picked is the anchor point on the inboard rear seat mounting area. d e

  6. Step3. Create Shoulder Belt. (Cont’d) f • Select the third >node, which is a point on the occupant's chest through which the seat belt will pass. • Confirm with >2B. • The shoulder belt is created, as shown. Note also in Collection block that two new parts were created for the seat belt elements. h

  7. Step4. Create Lap Belt. d Now create the lap belt in the same fashion. • When prompted to "Pick Shell Elements to Wrap," follow the same instructions as in Step 3. • This time select the shell elements for the lap and thigh area. • Then pick the two end >nodes of the belt > one being the same inboard point chosen for the shoulder belt >other being an outboard anchor point on the seat frame or floor. • Pick a third point on the dummy's lap through which the belt will pass,. • Click >Done. • The lap belt is created. f

  8. Step5. Create Retractor. To create a retractor: • Select >Modules>Safety >Create Retractor. • Pick the lower >node which was used for the shoulder extension. With Details On you can see Pink SB symbols, indicating slipring and retractor locations.

  9. Slip ring is automatically placed if two belts come together at the same point, such as the inboard belt attachment and the upper shoulder belt attachment. Step6. Create Shoulder Extension c Now create a shoulder extension: • Modules >Safety >Create Shoulder Extension. • Pick a retractor >node in the lower outboard lock pillar area, then the same node used for upper shoulder belt >node, and the extension is created. To adjust any of the seat belt parameters: • Select >Seat Belt Options panel • Increase the offset. • For example, if the seat belt appears to be penetrating the dummy at any point. • Show options earlier, perhaps right after shoulder belt created. • In Collection block> change >Type >Seat Belt. • Note that there are now listed the Retractor and Slip Ring entities created above. • From >File menu >Save As file name: >occupant_w_belt.sof in the appropriate directory. • Exit MSC.SOFY: File >Quit.   Congratulations!!! You have just completed Dyna Tutorial 3.
