  3. What is Graduate Studies? • Graduate Study involves course work and thesis work towards a higher degree such as; • Master of Science (M.S.) • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

  4. Why go to Graduate School? • An undergraduate degree prepares you for many good jobs: • applications programmers, • systems analysts, • design engineers etc. • However many jobs that require advanced degrees: • university professor, • head of an industrial research division, etc • project managers were almost always people with M.S. or Ph.D. degrees • Research teams in the top industry consist primarily of people holding M.S. Or Ph.D.

Why EMU Computer Engineering? • EMU has a strong academic and research background in Engineering and Applied Sciences • Originally established as an Engineering Institute in 1979 • Academic staff: • Many scientific publications • Many on-going engineering related reasearch projects • Broad range of reasearch areas • Strong ties with industry

  6. Admission Criteria • M.S.: min undergraduate CGPA>= 2.20 • Ph.D.:min undergraduate CGPA>= 2.75 • Republic of Turkey citizens must submit LES score for registration (min. 45 points)

  7. English Language Requirements • All applicants for whom English is a second language are required or present a recent; • TOEFL or IELTS score or • take a proficiency examination organized by EMU • Students may be waived from English Language Course or may be asked to take ENGL502(only) or ENGL503&ENGL502 in consecutive semsters based on their scores. How else can you pay? • Departmental Assistanships • Full Time: • Minimum Requirement: CGPA >=3.00, • Scholarship: • Full tuition waiver • ~$896/month or $709/month (Ph.D.), • ~$523/month (M.S.) • Part Time: • Minimum Requirement: CGPA >=2.50 • Half tuition waiver • Scholarship: • ~$262/month (Ph.D. And M.S.) • As part of a Type A, Type B, TUBITAK or FP-7 projects • Limited funding

  10. Program Requirements • M.S.: • 7 courses + Seminar Course + Thesis • Ph.D. : • 7 courses + Qualification Exam + Thesis

List of Documents • Required Documents from EMU graduates: • Fully completed application form, signed and dated • An official transcript of all university-level courses taken • Diploma (not necessary for application but required for registration) • ALES Test Scores (for Turkish citizens only) (not necessary for application but required for registration) • Supplementary Documents • Give details of any grant/scholarships that you have already been awarded (valid for your studentship at EMU) (add documents): • Give details of any application(s) for a grant/scholarship that you have made (add documents) • Statement of Purpose / Intention: (Please submit on a separate sheet: Your purpose in applying to the program chosen, explaining your motivation as well as the areas of specialization which would be of interest to you within the discipline) • A photocopy of your passport or I.D. card • Two passport-sized (approx. 6 cm x 5 cm) photographs • Program specific documents: Architecture ( PhD & Master): Portfolio • List of documents attached

  20. Evaluation of Applications • As soon as your application is received, it is evaluated by the department applied and the final decision is made by the Institute of Graduate Studies & Research. The result is forwarded to your postal address by the Registrar’s office. An acceptance letter is posted to the postal address of eligible applicants and a rejection letter to the applicant whose academic qualifications are not sufficient. Incomplete application forms are not taken into consideration.
