Welcome parents to Mr. Medina's Language Arts class! Join us for the Open House to learn about our curriculum, grading policies, and classroom expectations. Students need essential materials such as writing tools, a personal journal, and a library book. Our grading includes 80% assessments and 20% practice, with various daily and project-based evaluations. Class begins with Silent Student Reading or Free Writing.   2. Daily Required Materials • Something to write with • (pen, pencil, etc.) • Personal Writing Journal • (to be left in classroom) • Notebook Paper • A Library Book of Your Choice

  3. Grading Policy • District Breakdown • Assessments 80% • Practice 20% • 10-12 Assessments per grading Period • Tests, Projects, Presentations • 15-20 Daily Grades, Practice assignments. • Journal Grades, Assignments, Homework

  4. Schedule • Every Class begins with Silent Student Reading or Writing. SSR – Silent Student Reading Free Writing – Students write independently on a topic of their choosing. Student Choice – Students may choose SSR or Free Write Monday – SSR Tuesday – Free Writing Wednesday – SSR Thursday – Free Writing Friday – Student Choice

  5. Tutorials • Tutoring is offered Tuesday – Thursday from 3:35-4:15 PM. • Students must check with their parents and teachers at least one day in advance before attending tutoring.
