  4. More About Laura • Laura has loved books since she was a little girl. • She was born in Brooklyn, New York. • Her mom was a teacher and dad worked for a newspaper. • She has two older sisters. • She started writing and illustrating when she was your age.

How she became a writer • Even though she loved reading and writing she didn’t always want to be an author. • She first went to college to be a fashion designer, but she didn’t like it. • In college she wrote and illustrated a book and decided that was what she wanted to do. • Her first book was rejected four times before it got published.
