NOC Phase 2 - Concern 0075-10 Update Report 8 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Port-au-Prince, Haiti Current: The reported priorities for disaster assistance are: search and rescue, commodity flow, interagency cooperation for daily and weekly planning, medical response, monitoring and communicating the current security situation, communication of disaster response efforts, and improving the coordination between donors and the interagency.The Los Angeles County Search and Rescue (SAR) Team has landed today and the Fairfax SAR Team has established a base camp, conducted initial survey and identified priority targets. The Miami SAR teams are expected to arrive today. The US Coast Guard (USCG) reports that the Port-au-Prince port is unusable due to collapse of the pier and surrounding infrastructure. Ships will have to use another port and move commodities over land.Two hospitals have collapsed. Future: Members of the 82nd Airborne are en route to provide security. SOUTHCOM en route to establish air traffic control service and security; ETA 2100 EST 14 Jan. USNS COMFORT has an estimated time of arrival of 21 Jan 10. FEMA Logistics reports additional meals, water, tarps, blankets, cots, and comfort kits were ordered and sent to Homestead Air Force Base for pre-staging. Other: A deceased Department of State employee has been found in the rubble of his house. The main prison collapsed and over 4,000 prisoners escaped. There is a delegation of United Nations officials en route to assess and stand up relief forces.The National Weather Service forecasts a 20 percent chance of rain with high temperatures in the upper 80s and lows in the 70s through 19 Jan 10. Background: The US Geological Survey reports a 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti at a depth of 6 miles, with several aftershocks that occurred 40 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince.
