  2. Learning Goals • The goal of this lesson is for the students to successfully create and work with templates. The student will create a new document using a Word Template, modify template elements, create a custom template and work with a custom template.

  3. Learning Objectives • On completion of this lesson, students will be able to do the following: • Understanding templates • Create a new document from a template • Working with template elements • Create a custom template • Using a custom template

  4. Understanding Templates • Templates are preformatted, pre-styled documents where you add the personalization. • .dotx files do not contain macros • .dotm files contain macros

  5. Create a New Document from a Template • File Tab  New  Office.com Templates • Click the “more” folder to search Office.com for more templates.

  6. Working with Template Elements Sample text shows you how a finished document would look and what information you should supply. Placeholders show you where to place information. Content controls affect the data that you can enter (drop down boxes, text boxes, check boxes, etc.)

  7. Create a Custom Template • Before you create, think about: • The target audience • Making it easy to use • Make sure that it’s right (correct math, etc.) • Has correct spelling, grammar, punctuation • Create your document and Save As a Word Template. • Protect, with a password if you choose, the document to ensure that users can only change parts of the document.
