  1. Welcome to 4th Grade Curriculum Night! Mrs. Brown, Ms. Bartz, and Mrs. Shade

  2. Information from Administration Car Rider Procedures at http://www.cobbk12.org/MtView/ Morning drop off/car pool line begins at 7:20. Late afternoon check out needs to occur prior to 2:00. From 2:00-2:30, our front office is very busy with dismissal. Attendance Policy Bus Lot/Fire Lane Transportation Changes Visitor’s Policy

Daily Schedule • 7:20 – 8:15 Morning Work • 8:15 – 8:30 Math RAP / Number Talks • 8:30 – 9:45 Math • 9:45 – 10:25 Specials • 10:25 – 11:18 Reading / Language Arts • 11:18 – 11:48 Lunch • 11:48 – 12:15 Recess • 12:15 – 1:00 Reading / Language Arts • 1:00 – 2:10 Science / Social Studies • 2:10 – 2:15 Pack Up / Dismissal

  5. 4th Grade Curriculum • Health ~ Nutrition, Personal Safety, Communication • Science ~ Weather, Light and Sound, Space • Online Textbook • Social Studies ~ Revolutionary War, Colonial Life, Native Americans, Explorers • Online Textbook • Math (Common Core) ~ Fractions, Place Value to Millions, Multiplication and Division • Guided Math, Math Journals, IXL • Online Textbook • Reading/Language Arts (Common Core) ~ Descriptive Writing, Narrative Writing, Increasing Fluency and Expression, Summarizing, Making Predictions and Connections • Guided Reading, Novel Studies, Words Their Way, Hooked on Reading

  6. Hooked on Reading • Reading Log (20 minutes/night) • Reading Responses (2 times a week, checked on Mondays)

Assessments • Class Participation • Projects – Group and Independent, School and Home • Tests and quizzes: Study guides will be given a week in advance for tests, math quizzes on Fridays • DRA (Development Reading Assessment) • SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory): Matches reading material to the comprehension level and interest level of a child • STAR: helps determine approximate reading level • CRCT

  8. Report Card A = 90%-100% B = 80%- 89% C = 74%- 79% D = 70%- 73% F = 0% - 69%

Grading Policy • Papers will come home on Fridays in the RED folders. • Any graded papers with a 75% or lower MUST BE: • Corrected at home on a separate sheet of paper • Signed by the parent • Both papers returned to school Monday • Corrected paper will be graded, and averaged together (not to exceed 80%)

  10. Homework and Daily Preparedness • Homework is written in the agenda daily • Spelling tests and math quizzes on Friday • Projects will be announced with ample time to complete and will be accompanied by a rubric • Be sure your child is prepared each day by having all of their materials and appropriate paperwork signed • Agenda and reading log signed nightly • Behavior log signed weekly (please wait until the weekend) • Any money or important office information must be placed in a closed envelope • Bring a healthy snack
