  2. What is included? • All consumer products under the CPSC’s jurisdiction. • Automobiles, car seats, motorcycles, food, medicines, cosmetics, medical devices, and boats are not included.

  3. What is included? • Reports of Harm • Incidents causing injury and • No injury incidents • Manufacturers’ responses

  4. Process • Report of Harm is submitted • 5 business days to manufacturer • 10 business days to respond • Posted to searchable database

  5. Reports of Harm • Required information • Description of the consumer product or substance • Identification of the manufacturer or labeler • Description of the harm related to the product • Date of incident

  6. Reports of Harm • Required information (con’t) • Contact information of the submitter • Verification that the information in the report is true and accurate • Consent for the report to be included in the database

  7. Manufacturers should? • Register • Plan • Respond

  8. Plan • Be proactive • Point person/response team • “Common” complaints and issues • Be prepared to review for confidential or materially inaccurate information

  9. Respond? • No response is required • Respond now • Respond after complete investigation

  10. Respond. • No opportunity to investigate • Safety and customer satisfaction are paramount • Contact from consumer? • Product literature references • Provide consistent and accurate responses

  11. Closing Thoughts • Undoubtedly database will be used for litigation-related purposes. • Register! • Some response may be better than none.
