Required Email, Google Group • Send the professor email • MPanitz@cascadia.edu(This is also listed in the syllabus) • In the Subject, put the word BIT142 • You are required to read your email at least once every 24 hours • Sign up for the Google Group • Google for ‘Panitz 142’, then click on my home page, then on to the 142 class. • There’s a sign-up box (no GMail required) • You are required to subscribe, and to read the messages from the group at least once every 24 hours. BIT 142 and BIT 143

Google Groups • This week & next: Required group work: • Post at least one question about the material that you’re working on • Answer at least one other question. • By Tuesday, for Lesson 02 credit • GOAL: Get people using the Google Groups to talk to each other about class material BIT 142 and BIT 143

  4. Introduction to C# You’ll learn by doing Practice, practice, practice! 10-15 hours outside of class, per week, on average! Solve medium-sized problems Understanding is the key!! 142:Objective: Learn C# Programming! BIT 142 and BIT 143

  7. Note on reading • BIT 142 will be following the “C# For Programmers” book closely • C# How To Program • Especially for the first several weeks • The edition doesn’t matter • 1st , 2nd , or 3rd – get the cheapest one • “C# How To Program” is basically the same book • I’d highly recommend that you get it. • There are copies on “4 hour reserve” in the library BIT 142 and BIT 143

  8. Note on reading • IF YOU DON’T FIND WHAT YOU NEED IN THE BOOK (AND CLASS WEBSITE), THEN YOU NEED TO FIND MORE MATERIAL ON YOUR OWN! • By yourself, or in groups • Google / the Web • Campus library – check out the ‘reserve’ shelf • Other books, etc BIT 142: Intermediate Programming

Make-Up Policy • If you notify the instructor at least one week prior to an exam or quiz, it may be possible to take the exam or quiz at a different time than the scheduled date. • No make-ups will be given for exams, presentations, or other such graded events, that were missed without prior notification to the instructor. • Any disagreements about your grade should be brought to my attention immediately. ALWAYS BRING ALL WORK TO CLASS • Make sure that you bring all your work to every single lecture • This specifically includes any work that you have not yet finished. • In-Class exercises may build on previously assigned work, further refine/clarify previously assigned work, and/or give you time in class to complete work BIT 142 and BIT 143

Pairwise Reading: Grades • Group up in pairs • Triples are ok, if there is an odd number of people • 10 minutes to: • Download The Syllabus • Read The “Assessment” section • Summarize the “Assessment” section. • 5 minutes to present your summary to another pair, and listen to their presentation. BIT 142 and BIT 143

  12. Next: Intro to Visual Studio, hand-in software • We’ll go over how to • download a starter project, • work on it using Visual Studio, • hand it in to StudentTracker BIT 142 and BIT 143
