  2. Introduction • Ancient Greek sports have passed the test of time and are with us today • Today me and my partner will talk about ancient Greek sports in which we will talk about the Olympic games , python games , isthmian games , and the Neman games

THE python games • THE python games were invented in 522 B.C.E in honor of APOLLO slaying the python [a giant snake with four legs ] • the python games were first held at Delphi 2 years after the Olympic games this is the only game which included music and poetry except those two games every physical games were the same as the Olympic games the chariot racing was held in a hippodrome [a Greek stadium for horse racing and chariot racing ]

  4. THE PYTHON GAMES • The musical part only involved dancing later it evolved to singing till guitar performances • AS the Python games were mostly about musical things the physical games were then the starting of the event

THE Isthmian games • THE Isthmian game were first held in Corinth in honor of Poseidon • The isthmian games originated as funeral games for Melicerts {palaemon} the king of Corinth at that time • FROM about 228 B.C.E onward the Romans were allowed to take part in the isthmian games • unlike the python games the isthmian games were more physical the games involved in it were chariot races, wrestling ,musical contests in which women were allowed to take part of it, pankration and boxing • THERE was only one famous victor in the isthmian games Celitomachus of Thebes he won wrestling boxing and the pankration games on the same day

  10. THE Neman games • The Neman games were held at Nemea every two or three years in Honor of Zeus { King of the Greek gods } they were first held in 573 B.C.E THE Neman games are said to be founded by Hercules after he defeated the Neman lion

  11. The Neman games • THE EMBARRISING PART IS THAT the participants compete without wearing clothes or undergarments • the events were ;the Stadion a foot race which was about 178meters at Nemea, • THE Diaulos twice the stadion foot race ,about 355meters at Nemea

The Neman games • THE Hippios twice the Diaulos foot race ,about 710meters at Nemea • THE Dolichos 7,10,20 or 24 times the stadium • THE Hoplitodroms a diaulos foot race with the competitors wearing helmets and metal greaves • THE pyx a boxing like game except there hands and feet were tied to a piece of leather strip • THE pankration a blend of boxing and wrestling with very few rules • The pale ; a wrestling game goal to throw the opponent on the ground three times • the long jump

THE Olympic games • The Olympics were first held in 776 B.C.E in honor of the Greek gods • The location is Olympia • the Olympics were different from today they were fewer events and only people who could speak Greek were allowed to compete the games were always held in Olympia • the game ended up being one of the rituals of ancient Greece

  21. Ancient Greece has influenced us in many things including sports as we still use the Olympic games except we just added more events to it .
