  1. The Ethiopian Eunuch

  2. Acts 8:28-39 • We usually focus on: • The necessity of baptism, v. 35-36 • Preaching Christ is more than just birth, death and resurrection. • Mode and medium of baptism, v. 36, 38-39 • There are other lessons to be learned.

  3. What Is A Eunuch? From Answer.com: • A castrated man employed as a harem attendant or as a functionary in certain Asian courts. • A man or boy whose testes are nonfunctioning or have been removed. • Matthew 19:12 For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”

  4. What Is A Eunuch? • Deuteronomy 23:1 He who is emasculated by crushing or mutilation shall not enter the assembly of the LORD. • Isaiah 56:3-5

  5. The Eunuch – A Man of Authority • Acts 8:27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, • Candace is a title like Pharaoh or Abimelech or Caesar.

  6. Authority and submission - Sometimes they don’t mix. • John 12:42-43 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. • 1 Corinthians 1:26-27 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

  7. Authority and submission - Sometimes they don’t mix. • Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. • 1 Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

  8. The Eunuch was dedicated to worshiping God.Acts 8:27-28

  9. How dedicated are we? Psalm 63:1-2  1 O God, You are my God;         Early will I seek You;          My soul thirsts for You;          My flesh longs for You          In a dry and thirsty land          Where there is no water. 2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,         To see Your power and Your glory.

  10. How dedicated are we? • Psalm 84:1-10 • Psalm 100:1-4 • Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said to me,         “Let us go into the house of the LORD.”

  11. The Eunuch was a student of God’s word. • Acts 8:30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah… • He wasn’t wasting his time. • Ephesians 5:16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. • He wasn’t too proud to ask for help. V. 31 • Proverbs 12:1 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge,      But he who hates correction is stupid.

  12. We Need To Be Like The Eunuch • Remain humble no matter our station in life. • Desire and be dedicated to serving God. • Be students of God’s word. • Recognize the urgency of obeying God NOW!

  13. Be Saved Today! • Believe – John 8:24 • Repent – Luke 13:3 • Confess – Matthew 10:32-33 • Be Baptized – Mark 16:16 • Be Faithful – Revelation 2:10
