  4. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • The story of Thanksgiving starts with the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were people who left England and came to America in 1620, because they wanted to practice their religionfreely. • religion: 宗教 belief in a god or gods

  5. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • The Pilgrims did not know how to grow food and how to hunt in America. • They also did not know how to build strong homes. They were very cold.

  6. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • Over half of the Pilgrims died in the winter of 1620, because they did not know how to survive in America. • survive = to continue to live

  7. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • The Native Americansare people who lived in America before anyone else. • In the spring of 1621 some Native Americans started to help the Pilgrims grow food and make homes.

  8. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • The Native Americans showed the Pilgrims how to grow: pumpkin,squashand corn.

  9. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • The Native Americans also showed the Pilgrims how to hunt turkey.

  10. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • In the fall of 1621 the Pilgrims had a lot of food to help them survive the next winter.

  11. STORY OF THANKSGIVING • The Pilgrims wanted to give thanks to the Native Americans for their help. They shared their food with the Native Americans at a big meal – the first Thanksgivingcelebration!

  16. THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS • A traditional Thanksgiving meal includes turkey, corn bread, pumpkin pie (cake), mashed potato, gravy and cranberry sauce.
